New HR Survey Results Reveal a More Confident, Less Reserved Period of Growth
ORC International Releases Results of second 2011 HR Reflections Survey
(Princeton, NJ, November 30, 2011) – Global market research firm ORC International today announced the results from their
HR Reflections survey polling nearly 800 public and private sector human resource professionals, internal communications
consultants and employee engagement specialists in the US. The latest poll shows data on a range of organizational and HR
issues including the current economic climate and predictions for the next 12 months.
According to the recent results, over half of the surveyed professionals (56%) note their organization’s performance is better
than it was a year ago- a 37 point increase from the previous poll conducted in January 2011, with nearly two-thirds (63%)
now focusing on growth above stability versus only 16% claimed in January. With regards to compensation, 83% are
considering raises by the end of the year, up from 66% in January. 74% are planning to award bonuses at the same or greater
level than last year, when only half shared that sentiment in January.
These results are very promising, suggesting the downbeat feelings that have been resonating since the economic downturn
have largely dissipated this year. Indicators of growth and optimism can be seen around the areas of staff retention and
recruitment, with significant percentage increases compared to January. Despite concerns about the economy, the results
show that most organizations are considering pay raises before the end of the year and awarding bonuses to the same of
greater level than in previous years. Although these results are promising, levels of employee engagement in the US remain
low.
“Overall, it is encouraging that HR professionals are optimistic about the economy and seeing the light at the end of the
recessionary tunnel. However, it is troubling to see engagement levels in the US remain low. Now is a crucial time for
organizations to engage with their employees, to ensure key talent is retained as the economy recovers. Through our
experience in working with organizations on their engagement challenges, when companies continuously measure employee
opinion, such as conducting an employee survey, acts as an excellent way to improve engagement levels, strengthen the
employer brand, and retain key talent” said Matt Roddan, Research Director of ORC International’s Employee Research
practice.
